CELEBRATING: Kevin asked me to be his girlfriend in September eight years ago, so we’re celebrating all of our adventures since then. He even surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers!

WATCHING: Lately, I’ve been watching YouTube videos more than anything else. I tend to listen to or watch crafty videos while I’m working on my own projects, so some of my current favorites are Cori at The Reset Girl, Ali Brown, Courtney at Little Raven Ink, and Adele at Inkie Quill. There are also a couple of new music videos I’ve watched recently: P!NK and Taylor Swift.

WELCOMING: It feels like the weather in mid-Missouri has really cooled down, so we’ve been welcoming the nice fall-like weather with more outdoor activities. Bring on the PSL, leaves, layered clothes, and football games.

PREPARING: College football and tailgating generally takes up a lot of our falls (in the best way possible) and this year we are adding some basketball to the mix starting in November. We’re preparing and hoping for a great sports season here!

PHOTOGRAPHING: Labor day weekend really helped me get back behind my camera. Each year over Labor Day weekend, I shoot our family golf tournament and then I also brought my camera along to a church picnic that we attended. I always notice that the more I use my camera, the more I want to continue using it.

Today I’m joining Anne, at In Residence, for a ‘Currently’ linkup that she hosts on the first Wednesday of every month. Be sure to pop over and see what everyone else is up to!

SNACKING: I recently stopped eating gluten, most dairy, high fructose corn syrup and a few other things, so my snacking has really turned into anything I can find that doesn’t include those things. It’s definitely not a bad thing, but dang, it’s not easy!

ANTICIPATING: Last month, I started having issues with the way that I was hosting my photos. To make a long story short, I used a 3rd party website to store my photos and then I linked them into my blog. I found this method on pinterest and loved it because it allowed me to share big beautiful photos instead of teeny tiny ones that wordpress allows with their media tool. I was naive in thinking that they would let me do this forever with the giant images I was uploading straight from my camera, but they finally caught on and shut down all of my photos. Once this happened, all you could see were big grey boxes that basically proclaimed to the world that I needed to pay them to see my photos again. I don’t think I’ll be going that route, but luckily, my photos were all backed up on a hard drive. I’m anticipating having to go back through to re-upload some photos here and there to make my blog posts complete. If you’re a blogger, I’d love to know how you manage/store the photos for your blog.

BORROWING: I’m starting out the month with a few books checked out at the library and I’m planning on borrowing a few more before the month’s over. In comparison to the past couple years, I’ve really been powering through some books. Current reads: The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, Love Does by Bob Goff, How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, and Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley. If you have any recommendations for future reads, let me know in the comments! (GoodReads)

ADMIRING: Over the last month, I’ve been pretty hooked on watching YouTube and following along with some of my favorite artists. I’ve been particularly admiring the work of artists like Ali Brown, Retro Hip Mama Andrea Grey, Adele at Inkie Quill and Courtney at the Little Raven Ink.

PURCHASING: Since I started doing more portraits, I have had my eye on a 50mm prime lens for my camera and on Prime Day last month I finally made the plunge. It’s not an expensive lens, comparatively, but dang is this thing sharp. An Amazon review really sealed the deal when it said that it is an amazing lens for pet photography.

DOCUMENTING: About a month ago, I thought I had lost over 50,000 photos from my hard drive ranging from the beginning of college (2010) until now. Since then, I have been making sure to keep my pictures printed and my albums up to date. I try to be realistic about what I actually document. For project life, I do about a layout a month unless there are special events that I need to include. Aside from that, I make a mini book for each vacation and I also have a garden journal that I’m working on.

ACCOMPLISHING: The last couple of weeks, I’ve been setting priorities for the week before it starts in order to feel like I’m running the week as opposed to having the week run me. I’m keeping this list to just a couple things which is leaving me with much more time to be flexible in the moment. This is one of the things I envisioned for my word of the year, thrive, at the beginning of 2017 and I finally feel like I’m making progress on that!

ENJOYING: I’m participating in Camp Reset, a online retreat style workshop hosted by Cori Spieker (aka The Reset Girl). The purpose of the retreat is to work on self care, especially in the areas of making habits, healthy eating, exercise and being creative. I’ve been a part of Cori’s community for quite some time, so I’m excited to keep this up throughout July.

READING: Funny you should ask… I have four books in the works right now, three for book clubs going on at work and then a personal one. To be honest, I really dislike reading more than one book at a time but here we are. The current reads are Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing (so far, I don’t recommend), Love Lives Here by Maria Goff (this is an easy read and while I am liking it, I don’t necessarily relate to it very well), How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie (not far enough into this yet to give you my opinion), and Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God by Timothy Keller (so far, I’m really loving it). If you want to keep up with me in real time, add me as a friend on GoodReads.

SPENDING: Kevin and I went to Kansas City this weekend and spent a few dollars and over five hours in IKEA. We’ve been wanting to go for a while, so we had quite the list prepared. We’ve been looking for a rug for our bedroom since we moved in to our house over a year ago, so I have to say that this was my favorite find.

baking: in my circle of friends it seems that I often get put on dessert duty, which I’m 100% happy about. My recent faves are brownies (with ice cream), my Nana’s banana bread muffins, and trifles (which I guess aren’t technically baked).

listening: to some amazing podcasts. I’ve been trying to be more intentional about single-tasking lately, but I love to get a podcast in while I’m walking Chloe or hanging out at the house. My current favorites are The Scrap Gals, Young House Love Has A Podcast, Better Cast Saul, Tell ’em Steve Dave, and Pocket Talk. Yes, this is me pairing down…

loving: my new camera. There is just something about having new gear that brings out all the creativity and ideas. Also, doing Week in the Life got me carrying it around and encouraged me to start really digging into the new features. I have a lot more to learn as far as the technology goes (my previous camera is 8 years old!) but learning is part of the fun.

planting: nothing yet. The weather in Missouri has been quite ridiculous the past week so I haven’t been able to get outside much. I’m really glad I didn’t do any planting prior to this rain because the seedlings would all be drowned or severely displaced in the pond, I mean garden. Keep an eye out though because I’ll be posting more about our garden soon enough.

remembering: that this time a year ago we were moving into our house! It’s hard to believe that we’ve been here this long. I was a bit worried when we bought the house that I’d get bored of the layout/decor like I had with previous apartments, but this is definitely not the case and I’m so happy about it.
