Week in the Life 2022 | Tuesday

Tuesday is in the books and I’m excited to share these words and photos. It’s fun to do this for an entire week because once I get in the routine of taking the photos, I start to get more creative. Today I included more photos of myself than yesterday. It’s a reminder that there is always more to capture, ya just gotta look for different angles and lenses to see your life through.

6:20 AM // Ope, the end of daylight savings strikes again. He ended up falling back asleep for a bit, but I was already up.

6:55 AM // Quick selfie in the mirror with Kevin after getting ready for the day. I am thankful every single day to get to do life with him.

On a completely separate note, I definitely take for granted that I can wear casual clothes to work. This is my current favorite zip up jacket from Old Navy, and reminds me of the Scuba jacket from Lululemon.

7:14 AM // A little morning meal prep for me and Callahan. Another salad for me and some chicken, pasta and carrots for him.

7:21 AM // Part of our regular rhythms around here include washing the dishes every night and unloading in the morning. It’s been a game changer on keeping our inventory of kid cups and containers to a minimum even with all the meal prep we’re doing.

7:50 AM // The only place the dogs stand in the mornings. *eyeroll*

8:10 AM // Snapped a quick photo of myself after dropping Callahan off at daycare. He freaking loves that place and I love my job, but most mornings feel bittersweet.

8:29 AM // ELECTION DAY! Stopped by my polling place on my way in to the office. Since I’ve been old enough to vote, I’ve never had to wait in line for longer than ten minutes and today was no exception. Walked right up, got my ballot, filled it out, submitted it and got my sticker.

12:35 PM // Another salad with rotisserie chicken. I love how easy (and tasty!) this meal is.

2:18 PM // Working away. I can’t share a lot of the day-to-day, so here’s a photo of me doin’ my thing. Huge fan of to-do lists and all the things to keep me on track.

5:37 PM // Kevin had to work a little later than normal, so I picked Callahan up from daycare. I started making dinner so we pulled his highchair into the kitchen. He colored a picture, played with a spatula, and watched as I gave him a play-by-play on how to make a chicken pot pie. It was my first time making it (and without a recipe) so I wasn’t even sure if I was giving him the right instructions.

6:14 PM // Praise! Turned out great and the whole family loved it. Callahan added a few blue berries (those and raspberries are his faves right now) and I added a spiced cranberry sprite. One of the best holiday/limited edition treats.

7:05 PM // Dancing, running, throwing balls. We don’t get a lot of play time in the evenings so we make the most of it by moving non-stop.

8:01 PM // Working on a Christmas project tonight that required sanding and staining. The color looks fine here, but I’m not as keen on it in person. We’ll see how it dries and I’ll decide if I want to change the color to something different later this week. I chatted with my mom right after this to catch up on the day and then started watching election coverage (I secretly kind of love it).

Thanks for following along! See ya back here tomorrow for another installment.

Week in the Life 2022 | Monday

Week in the life is one of my favorite practices every year. This project was created several years ago by Ali Edwards and I’ve followed along for many iterations but also continued myself so that I have regular posts and photos like these that fit with the different stages of my life. I haven’t always posted them, but you can find others here.

Week in the life is one of my favorite practices every year. I know my life is changing, but when it’s happening before your eyes and is gradual with the natural ebbs and flows of life, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly when things change (unless you have a baby or get married or something) until all of a sudden, you look back and nothing is the same. That consistently happens to me when I look back on previous years. I literally LOL’d today when I saw that my 2018 self was still in bed at 7:40 AM on a work day. Don’t feel too bad for me, though, because I still don’t get up until the very last minute. I don’t know what happened since college when I purposely chose 8:00 AM classes. I was 25 weeks pregnant last time I did a week in the life, so I thought now would be a fun time. Callahan is now 15 months old (!!) so we are full steam ahead on balancing parenting, full-time work life, and keeping the house running. We are absolutely loving this wild stage of life.

6:45 AM // Every single morning, I stand in front of my closet with the weather app open trying to make my choice for the day. My closet isn’t as paired down as it’s been in previous years, but I’m excited about it and that’s what matters. Fall is definitely in the air so long sleeves are a must.

7:11 AM // Callahan was up a bit earlier than normal because daylight savings time ended this past weekend and we’re still adjusting. The person who made the decision on that clearly didn’t have kids. He gets breakfast and proceeded to “share” some with Willow.

7:57 AM // Headed to daycare. Every day we “talk” (AKA go through all the words he knows), listen to music (current faves are Hit the Flow by Landis, (Keep Feeling) Fascination by The Human League, and Baby Shark) and I tell him a mantra I hope he one day will repeat.

12:04 PM // Lunch time…I’m currently meal prepping for both Callahan and I so I just try to keep it simple. Today was a bag salad and rotisserie chicken. We have these to-go containers at work that make the best shakers for salad when you have to mix it up with dressing.

5:00 PM // Today I picked Callahan up at daycare (normally Kevin does) and we made it home for a walk before it got too dark. He requested bubbles the entire way home so we took the bubbles on the walk with us. The sunsets lately have been insane and tonight was no different.

6:49 PM // After Tikka Marsala for dinner, we played in the living room. Bouncing the balls on the hardwood and seeing how long week can keep them going through this maze are top of the list these days. He gets frustrated when he walks if the pants are too long or obstructing him from being able to go as fast as possible, so tonight they got rolled up.

6:53 PM // Full moon tonight that was visible from our yard. Showing Callahan the delights of this world (rainbows, trees, flowers, rain, animals, sunsets, etc) bring us so much joy!

7:07 PM // More bubbles during bath-time. I’m such a sucker.

8:00 PM // Callahan is asleep and our home is reset and ready for tomorrow which means I’m doing some fun stuff for me. Tonight that includes putting this post together, talking to Kevin about blogging, lots of pets for the girls, listening to T.Swift, getting in the Word, and having a sweet treat. My goal is to be in bed by 10:00 PM. Wish me luck.

I’ll be sharing photos like these every day this week. Thanks for stopping by!

The Good List

The Good List: fall walks and 78 degree days in November, fruit pizza celebrations, and allll the craft projects after bedtime.

November Goals

It’s been nearly two years since I’ve shared my monthly goals, but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been putting my PowerSheets to work each month. Goals with a toddler look a lot different and feel a lot more functional than they have in the past. I think there’s something to be said for priorities and being more intentional about how I spend my free time these days. When it comes to goals this month, a lot of this has been on my radar and circles back to the big picture of my word of the year, engage. I’m thinking of November as the prep work for the holiday season in order to really be able to slow down and spend as much time as possible with family during December.

  • Write 10+ Blog Posts – I’ve been hoping to figure out a balance of what I want to share in this space and I think that having a goal will help me do that. One of my favorite things to do in years past was Blog-tember – where a group of us shared a blog post every single day of September based on a list of prompts. Leading up to November, I wrote down a list of things that have been on my mind to share, so I’m going to start there.
  • Finish Christmas shopping – I really want to set the pace for the holiday season by having a plan ahead of time and focusing on family and experiences this holiday season (vs stressing last minute about gifts). I already have quite a few ideas so it’s just a matter of getting a few more and making the selections.
  • Have Family Photos Taken – This one may be cheating, because it’s already scheduled, but it’s my goal to have family photos taken at least twice a year. I’m hoping this lines up perfectly for Christmas cards.
  • Decorate for Christmas – I normally wait to put Christmas decorations up until the beginning of December, but with celebrating Christmas out of town (and knowing I’ll take everything down the moment I get home), I really want to enjoy the decorations in our home more than ever. I cannot wait to see Callahan’s delight at the lights this year.
  • Walk – I am hoping to get outside to walk with Callahan every day when the weather is nice! Let’s say 45 degrees or warmer.
  • Sabbath – I haven’t been great this year about prioritizing a day of rest. I feel like I go-go with work through the week and then the weekends are my time to focus on errands and around the house chores. I’d really like to take a look at my normal rhythms to see if I can’t adjust that for a whole day of no commitments and to do list items.
  • Four Books – I want to keep up the pace of reading/listening to four books in November. I’m already at 32 for the year and hope to finish at about 40!
  • Paint the Upstairs Trim – A project that I’m not looking forward to that will pay dividends in terms of enjoying how my home looks and feels. The ideal situation would be to take a day off work to do it.
Here’s a quick snap of my One Little Word talisman while we were at the corn maze for a family event with work! I have my 2023 word already all picked and out and the coin to commemorate it is on it’s way (yippee!).

What goals are you setting for November?
